NDC's Alhaji Sani Mohammed is blaming his party's top executive for the 2016 humiliating defeat. He says in order for the NDC to recover in its healing process, all national executives of the party must be overhauled.
A former vice chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that, the ‘selfish’ conduct of some top NDC executives and ministers helped in preparing fertile grounds for the NPP’s 2016 victory. Alhaji Sani Mohammed According to Alhaji Sani Mohammed, whiles the NPP top executives including their flagbearer were on the grass-root level engaging in vigorous door-to-door campaign, his NDC people on the other hand were ‘chopping money and engaging in profligate expenditure’.
The NDC top member made the damning revelation when he was asked in a media interview to comment on the Kwesi Botchwey report presented to the NDC leadership yesterday. To him the only way the party could survive the 2020 election is by returning the NDC back to the grassroots with a complete overhaul of the present national executives.
Alhaji Sani insisted that, the party’s 2016 campaign was the most expensive in the NDC’s history, yet the party was handed the most humiliating defeat ever in Ghana’s political history. “I have been in the NDC since 1992 but the 2016 campaign was massive but we lost and the executives are to blame” he charged.
The NDC’s poor showing at the December 2016 polls led to the party losing power to Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP, which triggered the party to set aside the Kwesi Botchwey Committee to help re-unite the party. The committee presented its report to the party hierarchy indicating that weak intellectual and research base played a key role in the party’s defeat in the 2016 elections.
According to the committee, the NDC needs to take steps to crowd the party with critical thinkers in order to make the NDC a better party in going forward.
